Be Aware - IEEE is not a Joke

How many of us really know what IEEE is and what it's motto stands for?

IEEE is a technical society that consists of 500,000 Engineers. It's voluntary organisation aimed at progressing technology by improving the quality of Engineers and Students through  various activities. As IEEE began to grow, new chapters began to grow as well.

What about it's motto?

"Advancing Technology for Humanity"

The motto is self-explanatory and defines the objective of IEEE. Do you know that IEEE is the only one technical society that speaks about ethics and has a code of ethics that members should follow.

So how does IEEE improve the quality of Engineers and Students?

IEEE Volunteers all around the globe conduct a series of events that vary between regions, countries and even sections. Each of them has a SAC ( Students Activites Committee) that defines the various activites to be done. In addition to that, each Student Branch may organise its own events. It's a non-restricting society where as long as the code of conduct and ethics is followed to the core, any IEEE volunteer may organise and conduct the events in the name of IEEE.

Here are some example of events that is being orgainsed:

  • TISP - Teacher In-service Program
It's a program made as a solution to IEEE's study as to why the quality of engineers degrade over the generations. It found out that students make their choice of Career without knowing about it. IEEE wanted to change that. So it started to push out awareness programs to High schools where students and thier teachers are taught basic engineering that can be made of home materials. One such product is the wooden robotic arm made of pure junk. If you want to see more products visit : www.tryengineering.org
  • Conferences
IEEE constantly organise various International and National level conferences to offer oppurtunity to students and professional to publish their papers and showcase their talents. Remember, all papers are to be of your own work
  • Student Congress
This is one of a kind event. Its a training program to basically train the IEEE volunteers. It happens in section level and National level and even Regional level. Whats it's objective? To make IEEE volunteers aware of IEEE and train them to be useful and also to make them network with the peers making them more useful when it comes to orgainising events. When you get a chance to participate in this, Don't hesitate.

Thats not even a percent of what IEEE is and what it does? But again stay tuned.

All India Student Congreess 2013 - IEEE

My first step in IEEE was a huge leap. I attended AISC 2013. I met wonderful leaders and top brass of IEEE India Council who inspired me to grow in my IEEE career. I learnt what IEEE is all about and decided to help my student branch become a exemplary one. This is the first step and there will be a lot more steps to climb the ladder.
